Kathy Change — activist and artist

A Tribute

Kathy Change

Artist. Activist. Visionary.

The Critical Time is Now.

Kathy Change was a Philadelphia-based artist, activist, and visionary who dedicated her life to the idea of complete social transformation. Through performance, writing, and relentless public presence, she called on her community — and the world — to imagine a radically different society built on cooperation, justice, and love.

Her Legacy

For years, Kathy Change was a fixture at the University of Pennsylvania campus, performing, distributing her writings, and engaging anyone willing to listen. She was a write-in candidate for any elected office, running on a platform of complete social transformation — not to win, but to give people an alternative, a voice, a reason to believe change was possible.

Her writings — essays, manifestos, poems, and open letters — remain as urgent today as when she wrote them in 1996. She wrote about democracy, ecology, the nuclear family, capitalism, war, and the possibility of a world organized around human need rather than profit.

Kathy Change inspired generations of artists and activists in Philadelphia and beyond. Her legacy lives on through community, creativity, and the ongoing work of transformation.
